EMERGENCY CARE FOR FIRST RESPONDERS CORE 3

This is a four day course for non health professionals, faced with the responsibility of immediate care of the ill and injured. By amalgamating trauma care, cardiac arrest and the management of medical illness into a single framework based on the DRS ABC algorithm, coupled to a few important and general cares, it is envisaged that the elements of Emergency Care can be seen as the application of relatively few, simple and easily learnt principles.

NZRC level 3 certification is the outcome.

AED TRAINING

This is a 3 hour training course for those who have purchased or have access to an AED and will be required to use it in an emergency.

Though they are relatively simple to use, the safety aspects are really important to understand, the algorithm needs to be used that is current with the 2006 Resuscitation Guidelines and the CPR needs to be of an excellent standard. The course also ensures that the background theory and anatomy and physiology are understood.

The AED that is to be used is also gone over thoroughly and scenarios are an essential part of this course so everyone has hands on experience.

MODULAR CORE CERTIFICATION (MCC)

A Level 4 Health Professional Course.

This year we will run these courses for health professionals who work in a non acute setting but who need to practice at Level 4. This course is done in modules so you can choose what you need for your professional practice.

The Modular Level 4 course is excellent for those not in acute areas in hospitals but needing Level 4. Also for Dental Surgeons and assistants, and Practice Nurses. Please contact us for special deals for your group.

The three modules are

  •  Advanced Airway Management

  • Adult collapse

  • Paediatric Collapse

(Defibrillation and Automated external defibrillation are built into the adult and Paediatric collapse modules)

These modules have skill stations, scenarios, an assessment process and Certification.

Certificates are issued by NZRC

Our Core Level 4 Modular Course dates for 2009  are

27 February (Friday) 1300 - 1800

6 April (Monday) 1400 - 2100

24 April (Friday) 1300 - 1800

31 July (Friday) 1300 - 1800

18 Sept (Friday) 1300 - 1800

16 October (Friday) 1300 - 1800

These courses require us to get the course information to you 1 week before. We need your expression of interest at least 2 weeks prior to the course (provided that there are still places available for you). Email is for an enrollment form info@resuscitationmatters.co.nz

This course does not take the place of the full day Level 4 to 7 course which works with teams who come from different health professions, levels of responsibility and and who work in place where emergencies are more common. Our team personally believes that the full course offers a more rounded and hands on and relevant coverage of what it means to be responsible in an emergency when seconds count. See below.

These courses in Christchurch at St Georges Hospital Conference room.

LEVEL 4 TO 7 HEALTH PROFESSIONAL COURSES

We especially enjoy working with a team of General practice doctors, nurses and allied health professionals who normally work as a team from their rooms, dentist rooms, or private hospitals. We will train in your environment using your own equipment if you have it. We can arrange a course to suit your venue and timing needs.

We also run a number of “public Courses” designed for individual practitioners or small groups to attend. All Health professionals are encouraged to attend these. A group of nurses dentists and medical practitioners makes a great team when it comes to the scenarios and makes for excellent learning.

We run a 2 hour Pre-course during an evening a few weeks prior to the course. We strongly reccomend attendance at this Pre-course as we find that it helps candidates to focus on the essentials of the course during subsequent study.

Each course requires a 2 month lead in time for planning so that the pre course material can be sent to you in plenty of time. All courses are run to NZRC standards and as such follow the same format as delivered throughout New Zealand. Certificates are issued by NZRC.

Our Core Level 4-7 Course dates for 2009  are

15,15 May (Friday 1300 - 1800, Saturday 0900 - 1300)

1 August  (Saturday) 0800 - 1800

31 October (Saturday ) 0800 - 1800

HEALTH PROFESSIONAL TEAM TRAINING

This is very popular for Medical and Dental groups and associated allied health teams.  It is a 2-3 hour update using the management guidelines for NZRC Level 4-7. It is for the nurses, receptionist, Doctor, Dentist, Dental assistants and Chairside nurses, Physios, Occupational therapists so they can work together as a team, work out their roles and practice the skills of CPR as a team. The resuscitation  can then be practiced in scenario form using and familiarising your team with your own equipment. We use our advanced manikin for advanced airway skills and our Automated External defibrillator to practice early defibrillation and the manual defibrillator if required by your workplace .

Leadership and communication are very important components of successful resusciation and the course explores this in a very practical way.
