    RECENT NEWS

2007 signals another year of challenges and opportunities. Resuscitation Matters have already started courses including our popular updates for groups, and the NZRC Certificate of Emergency Care Level 4 to 7 courses. One of the consistent comments that are made in our debriefing after a full day of training is the very worthwhile learning that comes from working with a cross section of other health professionals at different levels because of the wide and and varied background experience.

The CORE Instructors of NZ (CINZ) held our annual meeting in Wellington at the end of 2006. Our team is always maintaining currency with the latest research and thinking and application of the consequent professional standards. This in turn is beneficial to all participants in our courses. Terry and I are privileged to be able to work with other excellent level 6 instructors here in Christchurch, the West Coast, Oamaru and Invercargill. This enables us to be able to deliver the Certificate of Resuscitation and Emergency Care and other courses in the South Island with the high quality we expect of our delivery. Our courses are recognised by NZCGP and NZDA. and by other parent bodies.

We are based in Christchurch but always consider working with groups in other centers in the South Island. The courses we offer can be updates, Modular level 4, or full 8 hour level 4 to 7 training. The latter is the same course as delivererd by level 6 and 7 instructors throughout New Zealand hospitals and other health professional groups (eg primary health, dentists). This transferable certificate will assist you with your health practitioners competancy requirements.

Our upcoming COURSES are posted now

Our achievements have been in having adequate instructors in each class to maximize the learning for the participants who join our courses. Competence leads to confidence and practising the skills of resuscitation with your team in your own environment is what we encourage. Ngaire goes to many workplaces and takes realistic resuscitation equipment to be used depending on the group. The Manikins (advaced and basic depending on the group) are available so your team is able to practice working in as real a situation as possible. There are also very popular and are very well received yearly updates using the same resources. There is also the opportunity for the workplace to have a set of manikins for 1 week after the course so staff can consolidate their skills in their own time.

This year we continue to have our ‘public courses’ for health professional individuals who need to complete the certificate of Resuscitation & Emergency Care. In 2006 we went to many teams and conducted the full 4-7 Course at their place and that was very enjoyable and successful. Seeing knowledge, skills and equipment come together to create and improve emergency preparedness is very rewarding for us.

With the 2006 Guidelines for the Levels 4-7 upon us Resuscitation Matters are conducting update workshops for Health professionals who have completed the Level 4-7 Certificationin the past. These include the new guidelines and the option of an emergency team leadership seminar and practical skill updates and scenarios.

    OUR TEAM

Ngaire has continuing her work with the Nurses and medical imaging students at the C.P.I.T, with the Private Physios, rest homes staff, medical and dental practices and many other health professionals. Our team updates at the room of the practices are very popular and can be tailored to the needs of the group though they do not take the place of the more formal training everyone can have hands on training on LARRY and our ALS manikin team. The information is always current and the delivery is always with the adult learner in mind.

Terry continues his work as a specialist anaesthetist and has a lot of experience in Resuscitation of all sorts at all times. This year we have acquired a Life pak CR plus AED and I guess we can say we are pleased we have not had to use it YET! Terry has a passion for health professional in particular nurses and Doctors and anaesthetic technicians to be very confident and competent in their skills and practice high standards of care and team work. As well as clinical teaching on the job he is very pleased to be teaching Resuscitation in a more formal way.

Dawn has now been with us for a year and comes with a Registered nurse and Aviation Medicine background. Dawn has experience as a flight attendant and works with the training in this area at present as well as with our Level 4-7 courses and MCC Level 4 courses. Dawn also works in the community classes teaching Resuscitation. Dawn is very enthusiastic about learning.

Nicky is an enrolled nurse and is a highly motivated person with a passion for successfully achieving tasks and goals. She has the ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels. Nicky also arranges and teaches choreography for performing arts, and as such is very accustomed to expressing herself to large groups of people in a very enthusiastic outgoing and captivating way.

Our other team members, who work occasionally with us are just great, believe us!
